Local Support Groups

Support groups come in many different forms now. You can go and chat with other parents, professionals, and even play groups for your children. Some support groups help a family in need to get through the initial stages of the diagnosis of autism. Support groups help new people on the scene, many people have already walked in their shoes. It is when these people unite that we can help each other along. We can not have them not make the mistakes we did or show them the short cuts. With the age of computers you can go on line 24 hours a day 7 days a week and go into chat rooms, post a question on a group, and even get into specific groups concerning autism, PDD, autism recovery etc. Some groups are organized by early intervention, local parents, professionals or even schools. Groups take on many areas of interest, including leadership, mutual support for exchanging information, social skills groups, adult support groups and even advocacy groups. A note to remember is you will get out as much as you put in!
