How to make Autism Awareness Ribbons
Supplies:

  • Offray woven ribbon 13 11271 2 BLUE JIGSAW 5 7/8" 23MM
  • Tacky Glue, Aleen's or similar (use a heated needle to poke a small hole in the tip)
  • 3/4" silver plated pin backs. These are hard to find, you may use 1" size or gold if need be hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • Fray Check by Dritz
  1. Take a long length of ribbon (3 yards or more) and iron it in half length wise with the back edge not quite meeting the front edge.
  2. Open the folded ribbon. Run a narrow bead of tacky glue on the inside close to the edge of the ribbon. Press closed. Set aside for a while while the glue dries.
  3. Cut strips of ribbon 6" long with the ends cut on a diagonal. Alternate the diagonal cuts so they are symmetrical as shown below (note: for small ribbons make sure the fold is on the bottom, right side up and cut each length as shown below)
  4. Overlap the ribbon, left over right so the cuts are vertical as shown below: (use hot glue to hold in place)
  5. Use hot glue to adhere a 3/4" pin back vertically. Make sure to put the hinge of the pin back at the top. Use enough glue so that it forms a bead on the inside larger than the whole. This will prevent the pin back from popping off.
